Mathematics Kick-Off Meeting
On September 17-18, 2018, the Florida Student Success Center, in partnership with St. Petersburg College and the Florida College System, will be hosting a Mathematics Pathways Kick-Off Meeting for statewide mathematics workgroup members at the St. Petersburg College Seminole Campus Conference Center. All assigned workgroup members will gather at 6:00 p.m. on September 17 for dinner, followed by a full day meeting on September 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to discuss the importance of mathematics pathways redesign and develop a framework for analyzing ways to eliminate mathematics barriers that prevent students from degree completion.
The charge of the Florida Mathematics Re-Design workgroups is to explore complex issues surrounding mathematics pathways to prepare high school students for transition into Florida College System institutions and Florida College System students for transition into four-year universities. Three inter-connected workgroups focused on high school to college mathematics alignment, Florida College System mathematics alignment and Florida College System to university mathematics alignment will collaborate to identify current challenges in mathematics pathways and develop policy and practice recommendations to improve student achievement across education systems.
